Polyurethane Radioactive Bio Hazard Bags, Waste Transport Products

Dry radioactive waste (also called dry active waste or dry waste) is defined as solid low-level radioactive waste that is not hazardous and contains no free liquid. Dry waste is further subdivided into compactable and non-compactable categories to facilitate its management.

Extra Packaging manufactures radiation waste bags that comply with U.S Navy Specification SS507. The bio hazard bags can be made tubular with a bottom seal and with an overlapping back seam and bottom seam.

"Size-Reduction Packaging for Low Level Waste"

Outline Description

The waste bag system is a polyurethane bag that has a built-in HEPA filter. This allows air to be driven out of our polyurethane bags after they have been welded without releasing radioactive contamination. It is claimed that this reduces waste volume by up to 50%.

Prospective Benefits

Improved Safety

No significant impact

Improved Environmental Performance

Fewer transport movements (energy, pollution)

Lower waste volume in process (storage) and potentially final disposal

Improved Quality of Goods or Services

No significant impact

Accelerated Schedule

More productive at work-face due to fewer changes of waste bins

Reduced Cost

Lower cost of transport

Lower cost of storage

Lower cost of disposal

Product Description

The products are double welded, tubular stock bags of the following materials:

  • Polyester/ polyurethane up to 65” x 65” x 8mil
  • PVC up to 36” x 48” x 6 mil
  • LDPE up to 65” x 65” x 8mil

All bags are tinted green or yellow so that they can be identified from a distance, but they are transparent enough for text to be read on materials inside the bag. All bags are double welded at the bottom and made from tubular stock so that there is only one seam.

The manufacturer can supply bags with nuclear grade HEPA filters (.9997 borosilicate filtration level) to allow air to be squeezed out without releasing radioactive particles.

Their usage is illustrated below:

Double Welded, Tubular stock bags

Polyester/ polyurethane up to 65” x 65” x 8mil

PVC up to 36” x 48” x 6 mil

LDPE up to 65” x 65” x 8mil

HEPA filter (.9997 borosilicate filtration level)

When bag is full and sealed it is rolled up and air is forced out via the HEPA filter.
